Defeat gives Cork Intertoto place

Cork City will be in next season’s Intertoto Cup after St Patrick’s Athletic failed to get the win they needed against Longford Town at Richmond Park.

The home side got the perfect start when Aidan O’Keefe scored with a wonderful overhead volley in the 17th minute from a pass by Barry Prenderville.

But Longford drew level in the 63rd minute when Sean Francis headed a Vinny Perth right wing cross onto Byrne who controlled the ball before firing past Chris Adamson to level the scores.

And in injury time, Kirby fired home the winner with Pat’s committed to attack.
