Hughes returns to training

Lee Hughes is to return to training with West Brom tomorrow for the first time since a fatal car crash which has resulted in charges against him of causing death by dangerous driving.

The 27-year-old striker, who was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, was remanded on bail by magistrates in Coventry this afternoon and is scheduled to make his second appearance in relation to the allegations at the city’s Crown Court on December 5.

The charges followed a fatal road accident in the early hours of Sunday morning when a 56-year-old man died as a result of injuries sustained in the smash.

Hughes had missed Albion training on Sunday and Monday and was subsequently dropped from the side which drew 1-1 at Cardiff on Tuesday evening although he had spent much of the day in police custody before being charged.

A club statement read: “Lee Hughes will return to training with West Bromwich Albion on Thursday morning.

“The manager will assess the situation on a day-to-day basis before deciding when he should resume his playing duties.”
