Manchester United legend Denis Law is recovering in hospital after being treated for prostate cancer.

The former Scotland striker, who is 63, underwent surgery on Tuesday.

United released a statement saying the operation went well and that Law was in “good spirits”.

The statement read: “Everyone at Manchester United – players, staff and fans - would like to wish Denis Law all the best as he recovers from surgery for prostate cancer.

“Medical staff have confirmed that Tuesday’s operation went well. The United legend is now recuperating in hospital and is said to be in very good spirits.”

Law, originally from Aberdeen, also played for Huddersfield, Manchester City and Torino.

Named European Footballer of the Year in 1965, he scored 227 goals in 481 league matches and 30 goals in 55 internationals.
