Andy Reid enjoyed his first taste of senior international football tonight as the Republic of Ireland beat Canada 3-0 in Dublin.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Reid impressed in the Lansdowne Road clash, which Brian Kerr’s men won with goals from Damien Duff and Robbie Keane (two).

And Reid said afterwards: “It was great to play with some quality players – a real pleasure.

“I really enjoyed it and want more of it now – I’ll be doing my best for my club to try and get back in next time.

“We had the better chances and played the better football.”

Keane is now just three goals behind Niall Quinn’s international record of 21 after his double tonight – the first of which was a header.

And the Tottenham striker added on Sky Sports: “I don’t usually score many goals with my head – but all I can do is keep scoring.

“I think our performance was solid.

“Richard Dunne has only been with us for a few days but he was superb – and Andy had a superb first game.”
