UCD win closes gap on Derry City
UCD 2 Derry City 0
Bottom of the table College threw themselves a lifeline with this deserved and much needed win to close the gap on Derry to three points.
Both goals came within the opening 21 minutes as the Students blew a below par Derry away.
Robert McAuley, who had had a spot kick saved in the last minute in Waterford on Tuesday night, showed great character to shoot home from the penalty spot inside two minutes after pushing inside the area from an Alan Cawley corner.
Robbie Martin then punished a comedy of errors in the Derry defence to score the second.
Keeper Alan Gough's clearance struck Mark Rooney to set up Martin who shot home.
