Derry move clear of relegation zone

A Peter Hutton goal two minutes from time gave Derry City a deserved victory over Longford Town at Flancare Park to move them clear of the relegation zone.

With fellow strugglers, UCD and Drogheda United losing, the Candystripes took full advantage against a Longford Town team slightly distracted as thoughts turned to Sunday’s FAI Carlsberg Cup final.

Derry had several chances but it wasn’t until the final minutes that the deadlock was broken when Hutton fired home from the edge of the area.
