Andy Cole was back for Blackburn as Graeme Souness’ men aimed to snap a four-game winless streak and get their season back on track at home to Charlton.

Cole overcame the cricked neck which ruled him out of the UEFA Cup clash with Genclerbirligi last week but Italian defender Lorenzo Amoruso was ruled out injured.

Andy Todd was given a rare start by Souness at the back in the continued absence of Markus Babbel and Craig Short.

Charlton boss Alan Curbishley had his own injury problems with Shaun Bartlett, Carlton Cole and Kevin Lisbie all ruled out.

Paolo di Canio was given a place in the Addicks starting line-up with fellow striker Jason Euell having to be content with a place on the bench on a chilly evening at Ewood Park.
