Dundee second-round dream shattered
Perugia 1 Dundee 0 (Aggregate: 3-1)
Dundee went out of the UEFA Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Perugia at the Renato Curi stadium tonight.
A goal by Perugia striker Massimo Margiotta killed off Dundee’s dreams as the Italians won 3-1 on aggregate.The home team were rewarded for their efforts on the 26th minute of the second half with Margiotta giving his team the lead after being on the pitch for just eight minutes.
The Dundee defence were able to block the Italian forward’s first shot from inside the area but the rebound favoured Margiotta, whose strike towards the left post beat Speroni.
Cosmi made his second substitution straight after the goal with Brazilian midfielder Guillherme Do Prado replacing Bothroyd.
Three minutes later Dundee made their first substitution with striker Alberto Carranza replacing David McKay.
In the 82nd minute, Caballero came off as young striker Duncan McLean came on to bolster Dundee’s attack.
Slovakian referee Vladimir Hrinak showed the first yellow card of the game in the 38th minute of the second half following Mair’s late tackle on Do Prado.
