Sammy McIlroy has resigned as manager of Northern Ireland, the Irish Football Association confirmed this morning.

Sammy McIlroy has resigned as manager of Northern Ireland, the Irish Football Association confirmed this morning.

The 49-year-old former Manchester United star spent four years in the job but looks set for a return to club football after being given permission to talk to Stockport about their managerial vacancy.
