Blackburn have negotiated an option to sign Chinese striker Qu Bo if he impresses in a trial at Rovers.

The 22-year-old is one of the most famous players in Chinese football and will spend several weeks with Blackburn after already having been on trial with Tottenham.

Signing Qu Bo would open up lucrative commercial opportunities in the Far East but Rovers chief executive John Williams insists any decision to sign him will be made on his footballing qualities alone.

Williams told the Lancashire Evening Post: “We’ll see how he gets on over the next few weeks. Our part of the deal is to get him back to full fitness and then he’ll be assessed from there.

“We’ve got an option to either take him on loan or purchase him permanently when the transfer window re-opens in January.

“The commercial opportunities are obvious but any decision will be a football one.”
