Longford rue missed chances against Rovers
Longford Town 1 Shamrock Rovers 2
Trevor Molloy scored twice to get Rovers back to winning ways as Town suffered a cup hangover.
Cup finalists Longford dominated the first half but wasted good chances from Eric Lavine, Vinny Perth and then Sean Francis.
They proved costly misses as Molloy put Rovers in front on 47 minutes when sidefooting home Tony Grant's cross.
Brian McGovern then handled a Molloy cross on 68 minutes to gift Rovers a penalty which Molloy duly converted.
Substitute Shane Barrett gave Town hope when volleying home on 82 minutes, but Rovers held out for a vital win.
