Alex Ferguson made two changes from the side which lost to Stuttgart in midweek but the much-criticised Rio Ferdinand made the side after recovering from a foot injury.

John O’Shea and Cristiano Ronaldo were dropped to the bench with Quinton Fortune and 19-year-old Scot Darren Fletcher taking their places.
