Way cleared for Gaddafi's Perugia debut

Libyan international midfielder Saadi Gaddafi has stepped down from the Juventus board, clearing the way for him to make his playing debut with Perugia.

It was confirmed by the Turin club that Gaddafi, whose family’s company Lafico own 7.5% of Juventus shares, will no longer be part of the board, having handed in his resignation.

The Italian League (Lega Calcio) prohibit any footballer from playing if he owns shares in another club.

Saadi, son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, signed for Luciano Gaucci’s club this summer but has yet to make his debut with the outfit coached by Serse Cosmi.

A delay in receiving his transfer papers from the Libyan Football Federation and a back injury had prevented the 30-year-old from making his first appearance for Perugia.

The international midfielder was on the bench for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia match against lower division club Cesena which ended 2-1 in favour of Perugia.

Gaddafi could make his debut in front of the home fans in Sunday’s game against Reggina as Perugia look to get their first league win of the season.
