Jason Byrne made it nine goals in seven games as he hit his 15th and 16th league goals of the season to stretch Shels' lead at the top of the table to eight points.

Shels took a deserved lead against an injury hit St. Pat's on 23 minutes when Byrne stabbed home after good work from Gerard Rowe on his full debut.

Tony Bird almost headed St. Pat's level on 34 minutes but Steve Williams made a super stop.

Byrne then struck again on 43 minutes to shoot home following a fine move down the left between Ollie Cahill and overlapping fullback Dave Rogers.
