Kieran Foley and Alan Murphy got the goals to put Galway into the semi-finals for the first time since 2000 as three players saw red in this tempestuous quarter-final at the Showgrounds.

Foley, in his second game back at his home town club, stabbed home from close range on 56 minutes after Sligo failed to clear Tony Folan's corner.

Folan was then sent off nine minutes later for a second booking.

He joined Ollie Keogh for an early shower after the Sligo winger had been dismissed, also for a second yellow card, in the 38th minute.

Murphy added Galway's second goal on 85 minutes before Sligo's Ian Rossiter was the third player to see red for appearing to throw a punch in a melee on 87 minutes.

Ramuel Miller got Sligo's consolation on 90 minutes before Steve Feeney blazed over in stoppage time to blow the chance of a replay.
