Shels shocked by Sligo in Cup

Steve Feeney scored an extra-time winner as Sligo stunned Shels to book a quarter-final meeting with fellow First Division outfit Galway United.

Feeney headed home Gareth Gorman's free kick for the winner in the 104th minute.

The victory was no more than Sligo deserved as they shocked Shels by running up a 2-0 lead inside 32 minutes.

Shels had looked set to win it in extra-time after Jason Byrne levelled to made it 2-2 from free-kick five minutes into stoppage time after Michael McNamara had been sent off for pulling the Shels striker down.

Ollie Keogh opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a stunning 40 yard chip that caught out Shels' keeper Steve Williams.

John Gaffney then hit a brilliant 25-yard shot into the top corner after Keogh's corner was cleared straight to him.

Shels had Dave Rogers sent off for a second bookable offence on 35 minutes before Ollie Cahill gave them hope when drilling in a shot from 20 yards two minutes before the break.
