Murphy the hero as Galway sink Derry

Galway United 2 Derry City 1

Alan Murphy was the Galway hero with a brace of goals, the second an 84th minute penalty winner.

In a bright opening the side's swapped goals inside 16 minutes.

Derry went in front from a Michael Holt penalty on nine minutes after Mike Quirke had tripped Paddy McLaughlin inside the area.

But Galway hit back with a cracking equaliser seven minutes later when topscorer Murphy played a one-two with captain Colin Fortune to run through and drill a shot past Alan Gough for his 16th goal of the season.

Then, with time running out, Murphy was bundled over by Paddy McLaughlin after a shot from Barry Moran came back off a post and he dusted himself down to shoot home the spot kick and send Galway through.
