New payment plan for Scots
Scotland players have agreed to gamble over their bonus system - even though they could end up with nothing.
At the moment, the players are paid for wins, points earned and appearances even if they do not qualify for the tournament they are aiming for.
That is now set to be changed to players being paid only if they succeed in qualification, beginning with the next World Cup, and the incentive is that their bonuses will be larger than they are now.
But, if they fail, the players receive nothing.
Scotland manager Berti Vogts explained: "First of all, playing for Scotland should be about the pride of wearing the jersey, not the money.
"I could not understand the system they had in that players were paid for failure to qualify for the tournament - I believe professionals should be paid only for winning not losing.
"If the SFA agree and the budget is fine, for the 2006 World Cup the players will be paid for qualification only.
"They are taking a risk, but, if they make it, they will be paid more than at the moment."
