Win puts City back in contention

Cork City 1 Shamrock Rovers 0

John O'Flynn scored his 12th goal of the season as 10-man City moved back up to second place in the table.

Cork's hopes appeared dashed on 35 minutes when defender Alan Bennett was shown a straight red card by referee Jimmy O'Neill for pulling down goal-bound Glen Fitzpatrick.

But it was all smiles at Turner's Cross when O'Flynn struck for the winner on 65 minutes.

Rovers' keeper Barry Ryan could only parry a shot from Kevin Doyle and O'Flynn followed up to shoot home.
