Giggs wants more from United side
Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs insists there is still room for improvement following his side’s successful pre-season tour of the United States.
With rumours abounding that United boss Alex Ferguson is in the market for a new striker in the form of West Ham youngster Jermain Defoe, the current forward line flew out of America last night having netted an impressive 14 times in just four matches.
Predictably Ruud van Nistelrooy was at the head of the scoring charts. But he was joined on four by Diego Forlan, who scored twice in the 3-1 win over Barcelona – while Giggs contributed excellent efforts against Celtic and Juventus.
It sent United on their way to Portugal for tomorrow’s encounter with Sporting Lisbon in excellent heart – even if Giggs believes the Red Devils should have done even better.
“It’s pleasing to score the number of goals against the standard of opposition we have been facing on this tour – but maybe we should have got even more,” said the Wales international.
“On the whole, though, we have to be pleased with the way the trip went.”
