Skipper Eamonn Doherty put holders Derry through to the third round of the FAI Cup with this hard earned replay win at St Colman's Park.

Cobh had marginally the better of the first half with Kieran O'Reilly, twice, Willie Bruton and player/boss Dave Hill all failing to make the most of good chances.

Mark McChrystal headed over for Derry while Ciaran Martyn also came close but shot wide across goal four minutes before the break.

Doherty then struck for the only goal of the night on 56 minutes when collecting Peter Hutton's throw to score with a stunning 25-yard shot.
