Chelsea want me, says van Bommell

Chelsea are chasing PSV Eindhoven’s Dutch international midfielder Mark van Bommel according to the player.

The Stamford Bridge club, whose £17.5m (€24.8m) bid for Roma’s Brazilian Emerson has been turned down, may consider van Bommel as a cheaper alternative.

Van Bommel told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: “The ambitions of the club (Chelsea), as I see them, are looking great.”

PSV spokesman Pedro Salazar denied Chelsea had made an official bid for the 26-year-old club captain, but he acknowledged that talk of van Bommel leaving the club was not new to him.

Salazar said: “We have heard something from an agent who said that he was acting on behalf of Chelsea.

“He asked us what van Bommel should cost. But the man could not show us a guarantee that he was really speaking on behalf of Chelsea.”

PSV are understood to be looking for a fee of £10m (€14m) for van Bommel, who said: “I will speak with them only after the clubs have reached an agreement.

“And even then I first want to look around in London and at the Chelsea stadium.

“But their ambitions sound good. Chelsea at last want to make a real effort to win the championship and they want to have a serious role in the Champions League too.”
