Seedorf confident Milan are stronger
Clarence Seedorf believes AC Milan have not fallen behind their rivals after a summer of relative transfer inactivity and insists the European champions already possess enough talent in their ranks.
With the majority of Italy‘s big guns also keeping their cheque-books closed this summer, Seedorf feels they are in good shape heading into the new season even without a host of big-name arrivals.
In the past two summers, Milan have drafted in established internationals such as Pippo Inzaghi, Manuel Rui Costa, Rivaldo, Alessandro Nesta and Seedorf himself.
This summer veteran Brazil full-back Cafu and former Italy defender Giuseppe Pancaro, signed on a free and on loan respectively, have been the only major additions to the squad that won the Champions League.
“It is quite normal that Milan haven’t signed a lot of new players. We won two competitions out of three last season with this team. And we are running for six trophies this year,” Seedorf told www.acmilan.it.
The Dutch international midfielder refuses to single out any one target above the others but believes Sunday‘s Italian Supercoppa against league champions Juventus is a key match.
“The great teams can’t choose only one target. We want to clinch all our trophies, to win is fantastic but no victory is guaranteed,” added Seedorf who in May became the first man to win the Champions League with three different clubs.
“We have worked hard in these days. It is clear that we still need time to reach our best form but this week we will go on carry on like this in order to face Juventus at our top level.
“The match against the Bianconeri has a special meaning and is full of emotion, but I think Milan will be able to control the pressure.
“Last season we deserved to triumph in the Champions League and they did the same in the championship. This time we’ll see what happens.”
The Italian Supercoppa will take place in New York on Sunday as Juventus, the Italian champions, meet Coppa Italia winners Milan.
