Ryan O’Leary, son of former Irish international Pierce O’Leary and nephew of new Aston Villa manager David O’Leary, has been named in a squad of 18 players for a four-nation tournament in Hungary from August 12 to August 17.

Ryan O’Leary, son of former Irish international Pierce O’Leary and nephew of new Aston Villa manager David O’Leary, has been named in a squad of 18 players for a four-nation tournament in Hungary from August 12 to August 17.

Ryan, who plays with Aberdeen, has never previously been capped for the Republic, though he played last year for the Scottish Schools.

His father Pierce, who played with Shamrock Rovers and Celtic, gained seven Irish Senior caps in 1979 and 1980.

Five other players named in the squad have also never been involved with Republic under-age teams, though one of them, Darren Gibson from Manchester United, played with the Northern Ireland Schools last year.

The five are Gary Flynn (Lifford Oldtown), Cornelius Gallagher (Gweedore Celtic), Darren Gibson (Manchester United), Ross Gaynor (Millwall) and Sean Kelly (Kingdom Boys).

The Irish, who will have Senior international coach Noel O’Reilly as manager, will play their first game against Slovakia on Wednesday, August 13, at Szigetszentmarton .

The following day they will face Israel at Rackeve and their final game in the qualifying group will be against hosts Hungary on Saturday, August 16, in Szigetszentmarton.

All matches will kick off at 4.30pm Irish time.

The play-off for third and fourth places and the final will take place on Sunday, August 17, with both matches scheduled for Rackeve.
