Rovers bow out to Slovan
Shamrock Rovers 0 Slovan Liberic 2 (0-4 agg)
Liam Buckley's Shamrock Rovers bowed out of Europe, losing 4-0 on aggregate to a Slovan side who came to Richmond Park, defended their 2-0 first leg lead well and struck with late goals from Vaclav Kolousek and Jan Nelmar.
Well organised, with five across midfield, Slovan gave Rovers few openings before striking for the lead on 77 minutes.
Barry Ryan initially did well to parry away a low shot from Jan Polak but nobody picked up the lurking Kolousek who picked his spot.
The second came five minutes from time. Ryan again had to make parry saves from Karol Kisel and then Filip Holosko before Nelmar followed up to force the ball home.
2-0 on the day flattered Slovan as Rovers had good chances from James Keddy and Jason Colwell in the first half, but chasing that 2-0 first leg deficit was always going to prove an uphill task.
Slovan Liberec will now meet Spanish side Racing Santander in the third round of the Intertoto Cup.
