1976: Born April 20, Limerick.

1994: August – Joins Welling United.

1995: June – Signs for Birmingham for £100,000. Plays 12 games in debut season, scoring once but spends some of the season on loan at Notts County.

1996: October – After playing just three matches for Birmingham in the new season moves to Notts County for £300,000.

1998: November – Moves to Fulham for £600,000.

2000: April 26 – Makes international debut for Republic of Ireland in 1-0 defeat at home to Greece.

2002: June 1 – Makes World Cup debut in 1-1 draw against Republic of Ireland in Niigata.

June 16 – Plays in the 1-1 draw against Spain in the second round as Ireland lose on penalties.

2003: June 9 – Agrees terms with Liverpool to join them on July 1 in a £3.5m (€4.9m) deal.
