Coppell agrees new Brighton deal

Steve Coppell has agreed a new one-year deal to stay at Brighton.

Steve Coppell has agreed a new one-year deal to stay at Brighton.

The former England international failed to steer the Seagulls clear of relegation from Division One last season after taking over from Martin Hinshelwood.

Coppell told the club’s official website, www.seagulls.co.uk: “It was an important factor that I was comfortable in the environment, and that is the case at Brighton. People last year were fabulous towards me.”

Chairman Dick Knight said: “I am obviously delighted Steve is continuing as manager. I offered him a longer contract, because the board and I want him to lead this club into the future.

“But we fully understand the outcome on our vitally-needed new stadium is a factor in Steve wanting to commit only to a further year at this time.”
