Ferguson banned for three matches
Duncan Ferguson has been hit with a three-match ban by the English Football Association which will commence at the start of next season.
The Scottish striker had pleaded not guilty by letter to the FA after being charged with violent conduct following an alleged elbowing incident involving Aston Villa midfielder Joey Gudjonsson in April.
Ferguson also declined the opportunity of a personal hearing.
Television cameras captured Ferguson’s clash with the Icelandic midfielder, but the incident was missed by referee Graham Poll.
The FA then referred the incident to their video panel, who decided Ferguson should be charged.
Ferguson battled to overcome a serious back injury last term and made only seven appearances as a substitute as Everton fought unsuccessfully for a European place.
Next term Everton had hoped the player would have started the campaign fully fit, so an instant ban will now hinder boss David Moyes’ preparations.
