Rangers fans were hoping they were halfway to clinching their 50th league title following goals from Michael Mols, Claudio Caniggia and Shota Arveladze against Dunfermline.

But a fine equaliser from Jason Dair on a day when Rangers knew that they would clinch the title by posting a better score than Celtic’s at Kilmarnock, meant nothing was settled just yet.

News reached Ibrox that Celtic had taken the lead at Kilmarnock, thus tying up the goal difference tallies as well as points but Rangers were now two ahead on goals scored.

Stillie denied Mols from close range after a good chance had opened up for the Dutchman in the box. His effort was fired in quickly but lacked pace and Stillie dived to his left to block.

Last man Wilson made a saving tackle in the box to stop Mols getting on the end of another inviting ball.

At the other end, Crawford fired across goal and wide from a difficult angle on the right.

On the half hour Arveladze made it 3-1 with a glancing header from an Amoruso cross from the left and Rangers were back in the driving seat once again.

It was an excellent finish, with the Georgian getting across his marker at speed to send the ball arcing goalwards and beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.

Stillie denied Mols again, this time with his legs, after de Boer had slotted through a defence-splitting pass.

Stefan Klos was called into action in the 43rd minute to field a long-ranger from Brewster, who elected to shoot rather than take on last man Amoruso.
