De La Salle have won the Schools Minor Cup Final thanks to a winning goal from Karl Fitzgerald.

St Mary’s started strongly and forced two excellent saves in a minute from Jamie Coll who was starting his first game for De La Salle.

However Coll could do nothing about the goal which came on six minutes, a good break down the left was crossed into the centre and Jonathan Molloy made no mistake from six yards.

The sides were level on 21 minutes when a fine De La Salle move that started with Karl Fitzgerald was finished off in style by Kenny Purcell.

Fitzgerald found Anthony Flynn whose first shot was saved by the Mary’s keeper.

The ball broke back to Flynn who saw his second effort also blocked before Purcell spectacularly fired home the equaliser.

The second half saw De La Salle dominate the Galway side and they were rewarded 10 minutes from time when Karl Fitzgerald picked up a through ball turned the defender beautifully before planting the ball beyond the goalkeeper into the top right hand corner.
