Agathe makes his point

Celtic wing-back Didier Agathe has warned his team-mates to concentrate on earning three points rather than scoring a lot of goals in the final two games of the Bank of Scotland Premier League season.

Rangers hold a slender two-goal advantage over their Old Firm rivals after the 4-0 drubbing of Kilmarnock on Sunday.

But the Hoops have the chance to move back to the top of the table against Dundee at Parkhead on Wednesday.

However, Agathe is concerned that the focus for the run-in to the SPL campaign is on the number of goals each team scores and is determined to keep the attention on points.

He said: “The most important thing is that we go out and win our games.

“Everyone keeps talking about the fact the title might come down to goal difference but, before you can think about scoring a lot of goals, you have to make sure you win the game.

“We had a hard game against Hearts on Saturday afternoon and we know to expect another tough night against Dundee on Wednesday.

“They played very well against Rangers last weekend at Dens Park and they held us to a draw too.

“We know that anything less than three points isn’t good enough for us and we need to keep our focus and win the game.

“We need the fans to get behind us on Wednesday night and give us their support because it can make a big difference.

“We know that it will be a difficult 90 minutes but we are desperate to get the win.”

Agathe are chasing glory at home and abroad with the UEFA Cup final against Porto on the horizon next week.

But the former Hibernian and Raith man believes fatigue will not be a problem for Celtic.

Agathe told celticfc.net: “It is such an exciting time at the club that although you might get a few bumps, you don’t feel tired because it is such an important time.

“We need to focus on each of the three games that we have left this season, but in the way that we have done it throughout the campaign, we won’t look any further ahead than the next game.

“Since I came to Celtic I have won the Treble, then won the championship again, played in the Champions League and am getting ready to go to a UEFA Cup Final.

“It has been incredible for me and although there have been difficult times at the club, those are things that every player goes through.

“It is a great club and everyone is desperate to bring more success this season.

“Every game that we have left is important and we know we need to be at our best in every one of them.”
