Leonhardsen set for new deal
Aston Villa midfielder Oyvind Leonhardsen is claiming that the Midlands club have offered him a new contract for next season.
The Norwegian international moved from Tottenham to Villa Park only hours before the August transfer window closed.
He has endured a frustrating first season because of a succession of niggling injuries including a hamstring problem.
But on the few occasions he has been fit, Leonhardsen has created a favourable impression which now looks set to be rewarded by manager Graham Taylor.
Leonhardsen said: “Aston Villa told me a few days ago that they will offer me a new contract.
“It’s been a little tough for me with all the injury problems but I have to have done something right.
“We still have to agree, of course.
"But this is a good start regarding next season.”
