Call for Campbell video

The Football Association today confirmed they have called for the match video of Arsenal’s Barclaycard Premiership draw with Manchester United as they consider Sol Campbell’s appeal against his red card.

The video replays of the incident, in which Campbell was deemed to have elbowed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the face, will then be sent to three members of the FA’s video advisory panel.

They are expected to give their opinions before the end of the week, enabling the FA to rule whether a formal hearing should take place.

Campbell is facing a four-match ban following his dismissal for violent conduct during last week’s 2-2 draw as it was his second red card of the season.

If the video advisory panel agree with his assertion that he did not intend to elbow Solskjaer, then an FA commission are likely to sit before the suspension comes into force.

However, if the panel back the decision of referee Mark Halsey, then Arsenal will be without their influential defender for the run-in to their double challenge.

“The videos have been called for and will be considered over the next 48 hours,” an FA spokesman told their official website, www.thefa.com.

“We will look to resolve this issue before the suspension is due to be enforced.”
