Fergie wants dangerous challenges given elbow

Alex Ferguson warned that a player will suffer serious injury due to the growing use of elbows as he insisted Manchester United are still on course for the title following their draw at Highbury.

United maintained their three-point lead at the top of the table, albeit having played a game more than Arsenal, after the 2-2 draw against their leading rivals.

Sol Campbell’s late red card for an apparent elbow towards Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the most controversial moment of a frenetic game.

And while the Arsenal defender insisted that contact was accidental, Ferguson believes that the problem is increasing in the game.

He highlighted Gary Mabbutt’s broken cheekbone several years ago, while also recalling his similar complaint about a supposed elbow incident involving Alan Shearer at Newcastle last weekend.

“I’m getting really concerned about elbows. Someone is going to get a serious injury as it’s happening far too often,” insisted the United boss.
