Sunderland star Jason McAteer is confident new boss Mick McCarthy can guide the club to Premiership survival this season.

McCarthy took over from Howard Wilkinson at the Stadium of Light earlier this week with the club two points adrift at the foot of the table and with just nine games to beat the drop.
