McClelland vows to isolate Rangers racists

Rangers chairman John McClelland has vowed to root out the racist minority who brought shame on the club at Parkhead on Saturday.

Some racist abuse was heard from a few Gers fans when Bobo Balde and Momo Sylla had possession during the Hoops’ 1-0 win.

Now McClelland is determined such behaviour will not be tolerated among Ibrox fans in the future.

He told the Daily Record: “I do not condone this kind of behaviour, I deplore it.

“There was such a crescendo during Saturday’s match and although I thought I heard noises of this kind I can’t be 100% sure. However, if it did happen, it is unacceptable.

“It is a difficult problem to deal with because I know it must only be a small minority but we will do everything we can to make sure the message gets across to our fans.

“We do not want people who come to games to indulge in racist behaviour like this.

“Steps will be taken to make sure we weed these people out and I urge fans not to conduct themselves in this fashion.”

Meanwhile, Rangers defender Craig Moore believes the Old Firm defeat can act as a spur for silverware at the end of the season.

He said: “Maybe this is the kick up the backside that we needed.

“If it was going to come then it came at the right time because there are still enough games left to put things right.

“The way both teams are playing, everything will come down to the Old Firm encounters and there is still another to come in the league as well as next week’s final.

“When you face Celtic you know it will be a battle and Saturday was no different.

“The disappointing thing was that we didn’t cause them enough problems.

“But we have to put it behind us now and stay positive about what lies ahead.

“We didn’t fire on all cylinders and that is a major disappointment. In previous Old Firm matches we have done ourselves justice but it didn’t happen this time.”
