Kabba strike knocks Leeds out of Cup

Sheff Utd 1, Leeds 0 (result)

Steve Kabba fired Sheffield United into their second semi-final of the season to complete a glorious double over languid Leeds.

The FA Cup was Leeds’ last hope of salvaging a semblance of pride from a wretched year which has seen them struggling at the wrong end of the Barclaycard Premiership.

But instead it was the Blades who wrote another glorious chapter in what has a been a truly remarkable season for Neil Warnock and his side, with Kabba’s goal making sure of a second cup win of the season over their Yorkshire rivals, following the 2-1 Worthington Cup success.

Johnson was the third player booked 15 minutes from time for flooring Montgomery and then three minutes later the deadlock was finally broken.

Tonge managed to work an opening inside the Leeds area, only to see his 15-yard left-shot blocked inside the six-yard box by Danny Mills.

However, the ball fortuitously fell to Kabba for a first-time curler beyond Robinson into the bottom right-hand corner for his seventh goal of the season and his third goal in his last three matches.

With the Blades in the ascendancy, Brown then drove in a stunning 25-yard free-kick which Robinson brilliantly tipped over the bar.

Confusion then followed when Mills appeared to have been sent off for a second bookable offence, with his ’second’ caution for an elbow on Kozluk.

Mills, though, argued he had not been booked earlier in the game – instead it was Johnson – and so escaped an early bath.
