Kenyon: We made no Eriksson approach
Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon insists his club made no approach to Sven-Goran Eriksson about their manager's job.
Sir Alex Ferguson upset the England boss last week by claiming Eriksson had "shaken hands" on a deal to take over as Red Devils boss at the start of the current campaign, although he later admitted he was not certain such an agreement existed.
But Kenyon has said: "I made a statement this time last year that we didn't approach him and didn't offer him the job.
"Who we offered it to or interviewed we'll keep a close secret within Manchester United.
"I think we should just put all that behind us now and move on," Kenyon told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek.
Ferguson is now in his first year of a new three-year contract and Kenyon said further speculation about his future remained premature.
"We don't want to start the speculation yet but the success he brings us this season will prove he is the best manager in club football in the world today.
"We've always said this is all about continuity - that is the best way of maintaining success.
"At the appropriate time we will sit down and make whatever the decision is at the time and that will be in the best interests of the club."
