Rooney back on first-team scene
Everton v Southampton
0-0 (latest)
Wayne Rooney returned to the first-team scene at Goodison Park for the first time since New Year’s Day.
However, while he was serving his four-match suspension the 17-year-old, named as a substitute today, has made his full England debut and signed a new contract.
Alan Stubbs and Steve Watson had recovered from knee and heel injuries respectively.
Southampton, who beat Everton with a disputed penalty at St Mary’s earlier in the season, gave David Prutton his full debut after he joined from Nottingham Forest, and preferred Brett Ormerod to Jo Tessem.
Rory Delap is out of action for six weeks after tearing medial knee ligaments while Wayne Bridge and Marian Parhars are also long-term injury problems.
