Beattie given starting role

Sven-Goran Eriksson handed in-form Southampton striker James Beattie his England debut tonight in the starting line-up to face Australia at Upton Park.

Beattie partnered Michael Owen up front, with Kieron Dyer and Frank Lampard being given chances to impress in a midfield missing Steven Gerrard.
