Brian Kerr's first-ever Ireland starting eleven has been named ahead of tonight's friendly against Scotland.

Tottenham's Stephen Carr is back in the side, with starts for keeper Dean Kiely, Gary Breen, John O'Shea, Gary Doherty and Clinton Morrison.

The debuting manager has had to plan with a new skipper following the withdrawal through injury of Kenny Cunningham.

Fulham's Steve Finnan and Scotland's Steven Pressley have both failed to recover from illness ahead of the 8pm kick-off.

The Irish team is as follows:

Kiely, Carr, Breen, O'Shea, Harte, Reid, Holland, Kinsella, Kilbane; Morrison, Doherty.
