Gordon Strachan has revealed that Southampton’s two signings yesterday were anything but panic buys as the transfer deadline approached.

Nottingham Forest’s highly-rated midfielder David Prutton, 22, was picked up for £2.5m before a £1.5m swoop saw defender Danny Higginbotham, 24, leave Derby.
