Gerard Houllier would never for one moment criticise Michael Owen in public for missing chances, but he must hope the England star can feast on the worst defence in the Premiership when Liverpool go to desperate West Ham tomorrow.

Owen has scored only once in the league in 13 games since November, a run that started after he had bagged two against this weekend’s rivals on November 2.
