Goalkeeper Guillaume Warmuz has signed a short-term contract at Arsenal to keep him at Highbury until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old Frenchman has left French side Lens to join the Gunners as cover for the injured Rami Shaaban.

Manager Arsene Wenger told the club’s official website, www.arsenal.com: “Since the injury to Rami Shaaban, it was very important that we brought in another goalkeeper as cover.

“Of course, we are very pleased to have signed Guillaume. He is a very experienced player and has proved during his time with Lens that he is a very capable goalkeeper.”

Warmuz played for Lens in the Champions League earlier this season and subsequently will not be permitted to feature in Arsenal’s European campaign.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining Arsenal. They are a team full of world-class players and I am looking forward to playing for one of the best clubs in Europe.”
