The FAI's board of management has met for almost six hours in Dublin to discuss allegations of an improper bonus payment to former international manager Mick McCarthy.

The meeting produced no concrete results and was adjourned until February 7 to allow all parties to seek further legal advice.

Delegates at the meeting were due to discuss claims that a senior FAI official actively encouraged McCarthy to seek a bonus payment of €160,000 immediately before signing a new contract that included a hefty increase in salary.

The official in question has rejected the allegations, while McCarthys' legal advisor has also called for a full retraction of the allegations.
