Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed the better of the first half at Millmoor but Rotherham held on to stay on level terms at the break.

Lee Bradbury hit the woodwork from 25 yards just before half-time, while Shefki Kuqi and Adam Proudlock also had chances.

Rotherham made three changes from the side beaten by Millwall, with Richie Barker replacing Darren Byfield, Nick Daws coming in for Stewart Talbot, and Paul Warne replacing Andy Monkhouse.

Goalkeeper Kevin Pressman was a surprise inclusion for the Owls after recovering from a calf problem but striker Gerald Sibon was missing from the squad. Ashley Westwood returned in place of Steven Haslam.

Kuqi, starting in the absence of Sibon, had the first chance of the game after five minutes as he connected well with Garry Monk's cross, but his header was saved by Mike Pollitt.

The Millers responded with an early chance of their own, Martin McIntosh firing over from the edge of the box in the 11th minute.

Proudlock came close with a powerful header that had Pollitt scrambling before play switched to the other end where McIntosh sent a header wide from John Mullin's cross after 26 minutes.

The home side were dealt a blow after 38 minutes as Mullin, who had earlier been booked for a late challenge on Westwood, limped out of the action to be replaced by Darren Garner.

Rotherham's afternoon almost took another turn for the worse before the break, as Bradbury came agonisingly close to giving the visitors the lead.

He controlled a hopeful punt upfield from Pressman, turned and unleashed a fierce shot that crashed back off the crossbar with Pollitt stranded.

Rotherham had the final chance of the half in added time as Chris Sedgwick tested Pressman with a right-foot shot.
