We want to win title for O'Neill, says Agathe

Celtic wing-back Didier Agathe insists the team are ready to return the loyalty manager Martin O’Neill showed them after the troubled Christmas party.

Johan Mjallby, Joos Valgaeren and Bobby Petta were arrested after a team night out in Newcastle.

But Agathe maintains the players are determined to respond to O’Neill’s loyalty shown publicly after the incident.

Agathe said: “The gaffer did a good thing for the players by the way he backed us.

“He proved himself not just a good manager but also a good man.

“It meant a lot the way he stood by us in the Press so of course we would like to repay him for that by winning the league.

“The boss recognised what was going on in our heads and knew he didn’t need to shout and put more pressure on the guys with what he said in the media and newspapers.

“Instead he did everything he could to take the pressure off us.

“He made it clear he was angry at what happened but it was important he remained behind us all the way and we won’t forget that.”
