Give me a chance to be a good Bhoy, says Scheidt

Brazilian defender Rafael Scheidt has urged Celtic supporters to give him a chance to prove himself when he returns to the club.

The 26-year-old is set to arrive back at Parkhead in the new year after failing to win a permanent deal with Corinthians during his extended loan spell in South America.

Rafael joined Celtic in a £4.8million deal during the ill-fated reign of John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish in late 1999.

However, the one-time Brazilian international failed to impress Martin O’Neill and was farmed out to Corinthians, who agreed to pay his wages during his loan spell.

But the South American side have released the player and he will return to Celtic.

Now, however, Rafael is determined to prove his worth to the club after a disappointing start to his Celtic career.

Rafael told the Sunday Herald: “I want this year to be known as the Scheidt year.

“Those who doubt my ability are talking rubbish. If Celtic bought me, it was because they know I can play football at the level required. I have plenty of hunger and desire, all I ask for is a chance.”

Rafael added: “I belong to one of the best teams in Europe and the biggest club in Scotland.

“I’m confident of what the future will bring. After new year I will go to Scotland.

“I will make myself available to the club and I want to win back my place in the starting XI.

“I hope that this time there will be no misunderstandings. I hope this time I will meet the manager’s expectations.

“I have more experience than before. I’m more conscious of my ability and I think I know myself better.

“I’m a humble man and I’m ready to sacrifice myself to meet Celtic’s needs.”
