Bayer Leverkusen coach Klaus Toppmöller insists his side‘s Bundesliga clash with Nürnberg on Saturday is more important than tomorrow‘s Champions League visit to Inter Milan.

Leverkusen rose to 12th place in the Bundesliga with their 3-0 win over 1860 Munich on Saturday, and Toppmöller claims following that up with another win over Nurnberg is a bigger priority than the San Siro test against Inter.

Toppmöller told www.bundesliga.de: “The match of the week is not Inter but Nürnberg on Saturday in the Bundesliga.”

The Leverkusen boss admits his team will need to be at their best to take anything from Tuesday‘s game, and in particular singled out Inter strike duo Christian Vieri and Hernan Crespo as the best strike partnership in the world.

“Inter has a smashing team, a world-class XI. We only have a chance if we play with a compact defence, and we can‘t afford to make any mistakes,” he added.

“Vieri and Crespo, that‘s the best you can find in the world.”

But Toppmöller also warned that last year‘s beaten Champions League finalists will give Inter a major test.

He said: “We do not travel to Milan to hand over the points.

“We have fought all year to play in the Champions League.”

Pascal Ojigwe may make his comeback after recovering from knee surgery, but Lucio, Jens Nowotny, Zoltan Sebescen and Jurica Vranjes are all missing.

Diego Placente may return as he is free to play in the Champions League despite serving a three-match domestic suspension.
