Saints pick up vital win

Shelbourne 2 Derry City 0

Shels regained second place in the table as they inflicted Derry's third defeat on the spin.

Reds blitzed Derry with two goals in the five minutes before half time.

Mark Roberts shot home the first after Stephen Geoghegan capitalised on a slip by Ruairi Boyle.

The second was a lucky strike with Stuart Byrne's 25-yard shot taking a cruel deflection off Peter Hutton to wrong foot keeper Alan Gough.

Stuart Byrne hit a post while Richie Baker shot over as Shels failed to increase their winning margin over a Derry side that had right-back Boyle sent off on 88 minutes for a bad tackle on Wes Hoolohan.
